Lesson Before Dying By Grant Essay Thesis Example For Students

Exercise Before Dying By Grant Essay Thesis In the novel A Lesson Before Dying, despite the fact that Grant is an informed dark man in the time of a supremacist society he has battles more noteworthy than most men of his conventional. I feel frustrated about him on account of his confinements, despite the fact that I see him as a defeatist. He can't break liberated from his experience and family. The three fundamental female characters in the novel, Tante Lou, Miss Emma, and Vivian, confine and limit Grant’s decisions. Award understands that opportunity implies leaving his unassuming community and making another life, yet every lady holds a chain that keeps him from his predetermination and the option to be free. To start with, Tante Lou, his auntie holds Grant from his fantasies by declining to release him his own particular manner. Tante Lou needs Grant to remain at home with her and deal with her. Be that as it may, in the time the novel happens, it wasn’t normal for youngsters remain with their seniors and help out, particularly when Grant has a professional education and can achieve to such an extent. Tante Lou exploited this in any methods fundamental, utilizing the way that Grant is family and basically owes it to her to remain and assist. We can see this on page 14 when Tante Lou powers Grant to converse with Mr. Henri about observing Jefferson. You are going up there with us Grant, or you won't rest in this house today. Â » Tante Lou denies Knodt 2 Grant decisions that men his age have. Next, Miss Emma, who doesn’t have a family connection to Grant, additionally limits his decisions throughout everyday life. Miss Emma assumes a significant job in the novel by being Jefferson’s adoptive parent, and in a careful circumstance. She asks Grant such that gives him no genuine decisions to instruct Jefferson to take care of business. Inclining toward her capacity to convince, and utilizing her capacity as a broad companion to Tante Lou she can essentially instruct Grant and pulls off it. She realized Grant would not like to proceed to show Jefferson, yet at the same time proceeded with it. Â «Driving along the St. Charles River I could feel Emma not taking a gander at me, not taking a gander at anything.. simply thinking. Like my Aunt she realized the amount I loathed the entirety of this. Â »(p. 68) Miss Emma in this manner powers Grant to do matters that she needs, not what Grant thinks he can do. Thirdly, Vivian, the adoration for his life, is additionally constraining Grant’s capacity to settle on choices dependent on his own expectation. She comprehends Grant’s need to leave and see new things, yet has estrictions in her life that won't permit her to assist Grant with starting another presence. Vivian is in a drawn out separation and necessities to oversee it so she can keep up guardianship of her youngsters. We see a case of this on page 93. Â «Let’s head off to some place and go through the night. Rod Rouge, New Orleans-anyplace, Grant inquires. I can’t, My Babies. Â » This sentence alone depicts the strife she is proceeding with her own compromising viewpoints and how it impacts Grant’s decisions. I think the book is a charming novel and surfaced significant issues managed in the public arena. Religion, bigotry, and numerous ther articles of today are only a couple. Be that as it may, Grant is a perplexing character and can be delineated altogether. His instruction holds him to another Knodt3 standard not expected of individuals in those days, however retains him from arriving at his fantasies. He can't discover what he is searching for in this unassuming community that A Lesson Before Dying happens in. I feel frustrated about him until Jefferson shows him different components required to being a genuine and particular sort of man. He develops significantly. Yet, his should be free is as yet limited by Tante Lou, Miss Emma, and Vivian in various, yet significant ways.

Ralph Yung, must not say or put in the email that the staff must be open about the staff issues or problem in the meeting that they are experiencing in the company because as in a higher position it is not suitable for him to say that in an email because it is not formal for everyone and if they have a personal problem he must a ddress the specific staff or everyone personally. Physiological Barriers, each person has a way of thinking and they will do what they want and what they believe is correct especially in doing their jobs, they wanted to do it on their own way and finishes it rather than asking help to others. Linguistic Barriers, because not everyone has the same language that is why they cannot communicate because its either they cannot speak the same language or they cannot understand what others are saying so they will just choose to be quiet rather than communicating. Personal Issues, Not everyone can please and make you like by everybody in the compa ny not just only in the company but everywhere because of the personal issues they have with others they just choose not to talk to them and just ignore them. The 3 Different aspect of the Company: Routine and Rituals, because the staff of the technologists prefer to communicate in a way of using any technology and not having a conversation personally rather than the other staff who where communicating with each other and they were said to be a very social people who always interact with each other rather than the technologists. Range of Culture within the Business, the Company does not have a successful intranet through the staff especially to the staff of the marketing teams to have a verbal communication within the group and they are just using other kinds of social networks to communicate. B. The 2 breaches: On e of the staff named Jennifer has a software download which do not have any permit and just downloaded in the internet. Rob downloads or copied the confidential notes of the staff with their specific names and sends it to the draft of the boards of directors and the persons in a higher position. C. We cannot help ourselves to bring our work at home and finishes it while we are staying at home because some of us think that we have a lot of time at our home to finish it rather than the office hours. The staff of the office brings home the important documents and papers in the office and the family member or any person live in the same house might see the confidential documents of the office. Some of the staff cannot help their selves to tell their own family and friends about the things happening in their offices and some work related matters present to them. D. Jeff tries to use the informatio n of the company in the USA without asking their permission and also without having any permit on doing that copyright to the company in the USA and his own reason why he do that because he believes that the company in the USA will never find out what he has done to their information. E. Using of social networking sites, some of them just texting or chatting with other. Communication using an Electronic d evices like Sally have done to the staff on informing them to the meeting that Ralph organize and she just inform everyone by sending an email to all the staff in the company. Non Verbal Communication, like making a body language and facial expression on the things that they don’t agree with and to those things that they don’t wanted to do. B. Face to face conversation was the best and most applicable communication that may use in the company because it allows the employer and staff to have a discussion with more understanding and confidence to face a person. Telephoning, It might cause the some misunderstanding and cannot really understand what the person on the line was really saying but it gives you a more time to do the other works and it is more effective than a meeting especially if you just need to talk to one specifically person. Using of Social Networking Sites, the purpose of the social networking sites is that they encourage the other peopleâ €™s interest and ideas on communicating and meeting other people on the webpage. Communication using the electronic devices can be stored and save in the computer and in times of need of some of the information sent in an email they can still retrieved it. Non Verbal communication, a verbal communication tells that even if you’re not saying anything others can still see what do you want to say and in some verbal communication, the non verbal communication is still present on the discussion. C. Face to Face conversation, the example of this was when Ralph organizes a meeting about the personal problems of the staff in the company. Telephoning, when the admin team decided that they can communicate face to face or through the use of a telephone and they said that they communicate either of the two. Using of Social Networking Sites, The marketing team are always using the social networking sites to communicate and they are also known as the social people bec ause they always use social networking sites every time they communicate. Communications using the electronic devices were often used by the Technology team; they are the one who always uses the technology to communicate with others. Non verbal communication, the higher position like the CEO always uses the non verbal communication to communicate to the board of the company and also for them to convey his message, not just only to the board but also to everyone in their company. D. Face to face communication because it is the most appropriate communication of all because you can easily understand everyone when you are talking to them face to face and it is the right way of communicating others. Telephone communication is one of the easiest ways to communicate with others especially if they are in a distance and the only thing you can communicate to them is by telephoning them. Electronic Communication, you can also communicate with the use of electronics like texti ng and chatting because not everyone has a time to go to that person and say something especially if you are busy and no time to talk to. You can just text them or chat with them to make it more convenience. Social Networking also helps a company to communicate like in a way of sending a files through the use of email and after so many days you can still retrieved the files and keep it for years. Meta Particle Fabric (MPF) Use in High-Rise Buildings - 825 Words

Meta Particle Fabric (MPF) Use in High-Rise Buildings (Research Paper Sample) Content: Meta Particle Fabric (MPF) Use in High-Rise Buildings Name: Course: Instructor's Name: Date: Identification of Problems Following the changes in the contemporary society, most people have moved from the lower to the middle-class social level and have adequate disposable income to improve their lifestyles. As such, one of the areas in the contemporary society that is experiencing rapid transformations is the real estate sector, as individuals in the middle class in most parts of the globe seek to own homes, whereas individuals in the upper class seek to construct high-rise buildings for living as well as for commercial activities. Conversely, there is an issue in relation to the materials used to construction, especially the high-rise buildings (Chin, et al. 2008). This relates to the demanding levels of security, energy conservation, as well as the vanishing of building materials, a situation that requires civil engineers to establish new building materials that can offer the stipulated requirements. Thus, we aim to establish the utilization of Meta Particle Fabric (MPF) in high-rise buildings. MPF is a material that will help provide light in most parts of the high-rise building, which cannot access natural light and can only utilize electrical lighting (Cengel and Ghajar, 2011). Conversely, since the material will be incorporated in the building materials used, the high-rise building will not consume much electrical energy, meaning that it will have meant one of the principal requirements in the construction of high-rise buildings, which is energy conservation. Material still is Non-Existent One of the problems in relation to the construction of high-rise buildings and the most appropriate materials for the same is that fact that the MPF materials are in the theoretical stage of development as research continue to evaluate their viability in the development of high-rise buildings. The danger with being in the theoretical stage is that, it will take a long time prior to the implementation, because the materials will have to be evaluated by diverse groups of individuals and most especially critics who believe that it is impossible to incorporate an invisible material in the development process of high-rise buildings (Hawilch, Saqan and Abdalla, 2013). There is also limited information regarding the current study of MPF materials and the influence when used in high-rise buildings, a situation that limits the level of success of the theoretical studies that are ongoing. Further, following the completion of the theoretical preparation of the MPF, the researchers will only manufacture a small amount for testing, which means that only a small portion of investors will have access to the material. Difficulty in Selection of the Appropriate Fiber Another prime challenge facing the use of MPF in high-rise buildings is the selection of the most appropriate fabric that can handle the components of MPF. MPF cannot be used in concrete, which is currently used in the construction of high-rise buildings; this limits the potential of establishing the appropriate material or fiber that can accommodate the MPF components. In essence, in order to incorporate MPF components in a fabric, the fabric will be need to undergo a delicate engraving process (Cengel and Ghajar, 2011). Currently, there are three fibers under consideration utilized in the development process of high-rise buildings, meaning they are the most appropriate for MPF. They include; carbon fiber, basalt fiber and glass fiber; these materials have diverse components, meaning that adequate research regarding whether they can incorporate MPF components needs to be carried out prior to exposing them to the engraving process. There is also an issue relating to the adhesiv e material as a technique of bonding the diverse components in order to incorporate MPF in the materials under consideration. That is the process requires adequate structural network to be utilized in the high-rise buildings in order to offer the desired results. Reduction of Electrical Consumption and Heat Conductivity Owing to the high rate of resource depreciation, energy conservation has become a crucial factor in all aspects of life. This explains the introduction of the green building, one...

Definition and Examples of a Lingua Franca

A lingua franca (pronounced LING-wa FRAN-ka) is a language or mixture of languages used as a medium of communication by people whose native languages are different. It is from the Italian, language Frankish and also known as a trade language, contact language, international language, and global language. The term English as a lingua franca (ELF) refers to the teaching, learning, and use of the English language as a common means of communication for speakers of different native languages. Examples and Observations Where a language is widely used over a relatively large geographical area as a language of wider communication, it is known as a lingua franca--a common language but one which is native only to some of its speakers. The term lingua franca itself is an extension of the use of the name of the original Lingua Franca, a Medieval trading pidgin used in the Mediterranean region. (M. Sebba, Contact Languages: Pidgins and Creoles. Palgrave, 1997) English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) The status of English is such that it has been adopted as the worlds lingua franca for communication in Olympic sport, international trade, and air-traffic control. Unlike any other language, past or present, English has spread to all five continents and has become a truly global language. (G. Nelson and B. Aarts, Investigating English Around the World, The Workings of Language, ed. by R. S. Wheeler. Greenwood, 1999)Even though everybody around the world speaks English--sort of--in their dealings with American media and business, politics, and culture, the English that is spoken is a lingua franca, a Bodysnatched English to be carefully scrutinized as to its meanings when it is used by a foreign culture. (Karin Dovring, English as Lingua Franca: Double Talk in Global Persuasion. Praeger, 1997)But what do we mean by the term English as a lingua franca? The term lingua franca is usually taken to mean any lingual medium of communication between people of different mother tongues, for wh om it is a second language (Samarin, 1987, p. 371). In this definition, then, a lingua franca has no native speakers, and this notion is carried over into definitions of English as a lingua franca, such as in the following example: [ELF] is a contact language between persons who share neither a common native tongue nor a common (national) culture, and for whom English is the chosen foreign language of communication (Firth, 1996, p. 240).Clearly, the role of English as the chosen foreign language of communication in Europe is an extremely important one, and one that is on the increase. . . . It is important to note that this means that both in Europe as well as in the world as a whole, English is now a language that is mainly used by bi- and multilinguals, and that its (often monolingual) native speakers are a minority. (Barbara Seidlhofer, Common Property: English as a Lingua Franca in Europe. International Handbook of English Language Teaching, ed. by Jim Cummins and Chris Davison. Springer, 2007) Globish as a Lingua Franca I want to draw a distinction between a language which is spread through nurture, a mother tongue, and a language that is spread through recruitment, which is a lingua franca. A lingua franca is a language that you consciously learn because you need to, because you want to. A mother tongue is a language that you learn because you cant help it. The reason English is spreading around the world at the moment is because of its utility as a lingua franca. Globish--a simplified version of English thats used around the world--will be there as long as it is needed, but since its not being picked up as a mother tongue, its not typically being spoken by people to their children. It is not getting effectively to first base, the most crucial first base for long-term survival of a language. (Nicholas Ostler quoted by Robert McCrum in My Bright Idea: English Is On the Up but One Day Will Die Out. The Observer, October 31, 2010) Cyberspace English Because the cyberspace community, at least at the moment, is overwhelmingly English speaking, it is appropriate to say that English is its unofficial language. . . .The colonial past, imperialistic stealth, and the emergence of other language blocs in cyberspace as it grows will minimize in due time the preeminence of English as the de facto language of cyberspace. . . .[Jukka] Korpela sees another alternative to cyberspace English and a constructed language. He predicts the development of better language machine translation algorithms. Such algorithms will result in efficient and sufficient quality language translators, and there will be no need for a lingua franca. (J. M. Kizza, Ethical and Social Issues in the Information Age. Movie Analysis The Movie - 902 Words

If a film fails to capture the theme it attempts to portray, then what is the film actually about? One would hope a film titled Transcendence would provide a unique and original story for its audience. Instead, Transcendence is plagued with a weak script and terrible acting. The film is difficult to follow due to its lack of flow and the cinematography feels dated, filled with cheap CGI (computer-generated imagery) effects and poor lighting. The solid cast and a promising new director unsuccessfully captured the overall message of the script. In a movie where â€Å"love† serves as the main motive behind the main characters’ actions, one can’t help but notice the movie itself felt cold and emotionless. The plot twist at the end of the movie not only clashed with the main character’s actions, but it also failed to muster up a significant emotional connection to the audience. Transcendence collapsed when it attempted to connect emotionally to the audience. Th e main character, a genius scientist with no interest in saving the world, is a difficult person to relate with. John Stuart Mill, An English Philosopher And A Political...

John Stuart Mill, an English philosopher and a political economist, had an important part in forming liberal thought in the 19th century. Mill published his best-known work, _On Liberty,_ in 1859. This foundational book discusses the concept of liberty. It talks about the nature and the limits of the power performed by society over an individual. The book also deals with the freedom of people to engage in whatever they wish as long as it does not harm other persons. In _On Liberty,_ Mill employs a combination of formal and informal tones by developing complex ideas through many levels of meanings in form of clear expressions. Mill s use of contrasting metaphors in the paragraphs about the way human beings should develop shows both kinds of tone. The author also employs the figurative language to appeal to his intended audience, both the specialists and non-specialists in philosophy. Mill writes this argument to appeal to the audience who entirely agrees with him. He approaches his thesis by attacking the conservatives as well as the misguided progressives. He refutes any possible opposite idea to his thesis. Mill uses the phrases such as no one s idea, no one should assert, it would be absurd, nobody denies in order to confirm the accuracy of what he talks about and show that no other way of thinking can be accurate. Mill purposely uses these literary techniques because he writes for people who agree with him, otherwise, he would make his audience feel uneasy, orShow MoreRelatedJohn Forbes Nash Jr.912 Words   |  4 PagesJohn Forbes Nash Jr. and John Stuart Mill were both very important economist. The Understanding of Medicine of the Ancient Romans

In our world today, many of our medicine and medical treatments have been brought down from generation to generation, starting from cultures from several centruies ago, being passed down to our hospitals today. Some of our practices started from Ancient Rome. The understanding of medicine from the Ancient Romans evolved from the many â€Å"medical methods of the Greeks, the Etruscans, the Egyptians, the Persians, and other conquered peoples (Crystallinks, â€Å"Medicine and surgery†, Source 1).† They mainly received imports of medicine from other cultures that they adopted from. Ancient Roman’s based their medical practices on science along with their religious beliefs. This resulted in a system of effective treatments and transcendental practices. Not only did the Ancient Romans base their medical practices off of their sacred religion and their scientific theories, but they also incorporated it with superstition. A man named Tacltus, who was not only a historian , but a senator of the Roman Empire, spoke of Rome as a city where superstition interpreted everything, and said that Vespasian cured a blind man with his spittle, and paralyzed a limb by treading on it. Musical Analysis of Lose Yourself free essay sample

When faced with the decision of which pop song really stood out to me during my youth and adolescent years, the song Lose Yourself by Mine Immediately came across my mind. From listening to this song during soccer game warm ups, to quietly being indulged in my own headphones while studying for high school exams, this song was like no other in my Tunes library. On top of its amazing use of musical elements, I especially love this song because of its connection to certain socio historical factors and the pure raw meaning behind its lyrics. Although the reaction o this song was quite mixed, and stirred a lot controversy, it was the most defining rap song of the early 20005. While sitting at my seat pondering about this piece, It brought me to a scene of reminisce to all the milestones that Vie gone through with this song playing in the background. We will write a custom essay sample on Musical Analysis of Lose Yourself or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This feeling serves as a foreshadow to the content and messages delivered In this song that will be further discussed. I will attempt to dissect Lose Yourself in this paper and provide a thorough analysis of its different musical elements, its social background, and my own personal thoughts towards It.Amines Ingeniousness in creating this masterpiece resulted in an academy award for the best Orlando song In 2002 a vindication to the Impact that this song has had. In discussing its musical elements, something which makes this song so easy to enjoy and popular among all audiences is its duration. Its combination of piano, guitar and drums creates a simple layering which rocks to a common 4/4 time measure. Its rhythm is simple but strong, and gives Mine a good framework to rap on. Similar to many rap songs, the time measure does not change throughout the whole piece and keeps a repetitive beat. The consistency of guitar chords playing on the downbeat creates an engaging feeling for the listeners to nod their heads to. Most notably, in the beginning of the song where the guitar is first introduced, the use of the word generatorl can be heard very clear. The snares follow a similar four feel rhythm with accents on the downbeat while the piano compliments these two aspects well with its harmony. Its duration is very downbeat focused. Apart from the guitar chords and snare drums, we can hear that the left hand chords on the Plano all occur on the first beat of every bar. The use of loud humanities sounds during the chorus Is also on the first beat of every bar. The simple mixture of the uses of these instruments is important in delivering a driving beat for the rest of the song. Lose Yourself employs a typical strophic form. It has the regular ABA sections, where A is the verse and B is the chorus. This song very accurately represents the definition behind verse and chorus. The lyrics explain In details the story of his Journey and certain emotions he encountered through the verses. The chorus Is the moral, hook and what comes to everyones minds when they hind of this song. It stirs inspiration, adrenaline, and is the essence behind this song. Its repeated three times and flows perfectly between the verses, giving the listeners a quick recap of the moral in the song. Mine uses an interesting entrance to this song where he puts out a scenario, and asks a question If you had one shot, or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted, one moment, would you capture It or Just let It SLP3.Although similar to a bridge, Its not completely a bridge because song. However, it has the same effect of a bridge, which offers a different sound to he song, sets the tone for the rest of the piece, and engages the audience to begin thinking and keep their ears listening. Simply put, piano chords described as instantly recognizable open the song with a sense of mystery, and throughout the song there is a tense, unrelenting guitar lick4. What make this song so popular among sport teams who want to get pumped before games is the buildup and its dynamics. Every one of the three verses progresses in a crescendo until the chorus. The chorus is very forte and it has quick volume increases by a synthesizer sounding instrument that accents the downbeats in the chorus. The use of the softness of the piano harmony complements this hardness perfectly in his three verses as you can hear it lingering in the back. The use of his fading in and out with the symbolic piano sound uses dynamics very effectively especially his opening, which starts by only a unique piano melody creating that feeling of mystery, nostalgia, and adrenaline.Timbre plays a vital role in the layering of this track. The three main instruments come in at different times and add its own unique place in the song contributing to the overall mood of the song. First, its the light high pitched piano, which is unusual n a rap song. Then the dark low pitched guitar comes in when he starts asking the question and its soon followed by the heavy sounding drums as he starts to rap. The interesting use of timbre gives an acoustic and classical feel versus the drums and synthesizer of hip hop giving the song its diversity and originality. The tempo of this song is not too fast and not too slow. The track runs around 88 beats per minute, close to a maestros. Its the perfect mix of deep thoughts and relentless energy. If this song was any faster, it may ruin the strong statement that it delivers, while if its o slow, it contradicts the fundamental beat and rhythm of hip hop. Although many listeners may associate this song to have a certain depth in its tone, its texture is actually quite transparent. Its very easy to see through this song and dissect the instruments behind its layers. The individual instruments and voices are easy to distinguish and there is no large Jumble of sounds that mixes the sonic landscape. Now that the music background of the song has been established, we will look further into the making and context behind the lyrics. This song is basically the plot f the movie 8 mile a movie about his transcendence from poverty to success and famed. He starred as the main character of the movie, a-Rabbit, which was supposed to represent himself. It was his Journey through the underground rap scene which served as the inspiration for the plot of the movie. In fact, it was on the set of the movie in which Mine himself was so touched by seeing his past being put together, that he spontaneously wrote this piece. During breaks between sets, his producer Just started playing chord progressions, and he would scribble lines in between sets on a small piece of paper. The importance of the instructiveness is reflected in the movie as that actual piece of paper makes an appearance when B- Rabbit was writing lines on a bus. The idea behind the spontaneous creation of the song resembles closely about his past his determination and his ingenuity.Having to Juggle working multiple Jobs to make a living quote from the piece that I cant get by with my 9 to 56, and having limited time and few resources to pursue his passion in hopes of making it into stardom, reflects the hardships that many people who still without the help of any modern music gadgets, other artists, or other resources, he just composed the song while on set and recorded it in a simple trailer recording studio. Ironically, something that seemed so ordinary became his most renowned song, earning him an Oscar.I especially enjoy this song because in those four minutes, it represents everything about his career, his movie, and has continuously inspired me even after a decade. There is a central theme in Lose Yourself about seizing the moment, but the lyrics are fragmented, almost as if Mine is grasping for something to says. However, he gets the message across, imparting shards of trudge and ambition as he switches personalities between a-Rabbit and back to his original self, Marshall Matters. If you follow the narrative that has been constructed by Amines albums and the character he plays in 8 Mile, it is almost as if Mine has simply been sharing his personal diary with listeners. Lose Yourself is a cap on the frustrations, anxieties, and setbacks that everyone can relate to. Not everyone grew up as a poor rapper from Detroit, but its Amines unmatched ability to convey raw emotion that gives him the credibility to put together an anthem that tells us to seize the day and live in the moment while using specific examples from his lives, both real (Mine) and imagined (B-Rabbit).The music video for Lose Yourself was filmed in Detroit, Michigan, and thus contains numerous shots of the iconic city. The video is a mixture of multiple scenarios, including scenes from the movie 8 Mile. The social and historical importance of this video is vast as it reflects the haunted sorrows and broken dreams of Detroit a rundown city hoping to make a new image and revivalist itself in the turn of the century. The specific history of Detroit will not be scudded, but in a nutshell, this city exemplifies a lot of the socio-racial problems present in America especially problems regarding the Diaspora of poor blacks into the inner city and inequality issues. Mine demonstrates hope for the whole city by breaking obstacles of the poverty and racial cycle to make it to the big stages. Its truly special to see that the person bringing hope for all the problems in Detroit is someone who is when first thought of, not representative of the population in the problem ravaged area a white male.A major topic that often revolves around Mine especially in the early sass is owe he is a white male in a predominately black industry, but in a predominately white country. As illustrated in 8 mile, not only does he struggle with some of the more common tangible things associated with poverty, he had to deal with his skin color as being the main source of setback in his career. He eventually overcomes his many obstacles to gain the respect of other rappers. The subsequent impact of Mine was huge; he was the pioneer for other white hip hop artists to look up to. However, his proclaimed self-identity was initially hard to be accepted by both whites and blacks. His darkened whiteness through being raised in an impoverished black inner city Detroit community deprives the filthy white of his dignity. The audacity of this rapper from Detroit is that he dares to heroine this transgression: he is thus the discursively black white who undergoes the experience of moving between the two sides of racial identity. He also explicitly proclaims, Im a piece of white trashes identifying that to some extent he is also a minority within the whites. To put into context, white trash is a common phrase used to categorize a permanently classification was hard for both the black and white community to accept. He was caught up in the middle, with the black music industry not respecting him because of his white heritage, but the dominant white American media not accepting him due to his associations with black culture. However, Mine manages to skillfully manipulate s ocial classifications while alternatively positioning himself inside and outside the mainstream12. When Mine addresses white America, he positions himself on the outside of this group, while addressing black crowds as his own. His music links himself to his social status, reminding us that because of his past and identity of poor white trash, he is perceived as and describes himself as black although his skin is white, crossing the frontiers of race and class. He is from the black side, dark and damned by the America of the powerful. It is this aspect that fundamentally distinguishes Amines uniqueness from other white rappers, such as the Beastie Boys or Vanilla Ice who were both middle class. He demolishes the norm, and is eventually respected by all groups through his merits in his music. He is the first artist to break such racial and class barriers to become accepted by all of America. His popularity exposed the hip hop industry to a whole new market of sub urban white teens, and created drastic transformations along with controversy which will be further discussed. On top of the many positive impacts that Mine has had, he also had his fair share of controversy.Mine has accumulated many people who despise his music through his violent and often degrading lyrics. Ever since he biblically used the infamous n-word to discuss black people, much of the hip hop nation has been divided. One side claims that although it was decidedly wrong for Mine to use such language, the situation only points towards bigger issues effecting hip-hop music and culture. They claim that it is hip-hop in general that is at fault and that Mine is Just another example of that. The other side of the debate contends that Mine is solely at fault. They insist that Amines role as the number one selling hip-hop artist-?combined with the fact that he is white-?makes his comments all the more hurtful and insulting. In 2001, he was famously able to survive a storm of criticism by the gay and lesbian community that was directed toward what they deemed as gay-bashing lyrics on his The Marshall Matters LIP album 5. His objectification of females as hoes and the demeaning way he bashes his ex-wife through gender attacks stirred uproar from feminist groups. Both Castoff and Green would not have been too fond of his function in society and inter-gender relations. Under Castoffs principles, he reinforced atrocious stereotypes about gender, ones that may incur significant consequences in later generations. Despite the firestorm of controversy surrounding his often misogynistic, homophobic and violent lyrics, Mine has always been able to transcend hip-hop musics boundaries in a variety of ways. In conclusion, Lose Yourself is an accurate depiction of everything about Mine put into one song.It stirs emotions and inspiration that has touched millions around the world. Amines persona, his poor upbringing in Detroit with a relative closeness to African-Americans, and his amazing lyrical prowess, afford him two things that are of very high value in the hip-hop community: industry respect and street credibility. He offers a sense of hope for all impoverished communities in the United States. Although he has endured heavy criticism, he has still be up for debate for numerous generations to come, but one thing is certain Lose Yourself is definitely a song for the ages.

Jazz and Poetry free essay sample

There are many different types of music in the world, and each one Is deferent because of certain characteristics that help to make that genre stand apart from all the others. One of these genres Is Jazz. Jazz Is a type of music that was created mainly by black Americans during the early twentieth century, and is a combination of American and African tribal music. There are many different characteristics that set Jazz apart from every other kind of music, but there are three main distinctions; the first is its particular combination of rhythm, melody and harmony, second is the butte differences that make every Jazz player almost instantly recognizable and finally Is the way that Jazz players Interact and react with their surroundings, they do not simply play a designated set of notes. The flirt characteristic that helps to make Jazz so different from other genres of music is the rhythm, melody and harmony. We will write a custom essay sample on Jazz and Poetry or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Not only do these apply to the music of the Jazz era though, these same rhythms can be found in some of the poetry of that time. One of the poems that demonstrates a particular rhyme Is T. S. Elites The Love Song of J. Alfred Froufrou. In this Eliot does not stick to a common rhyme scheme Like some of the more simple poems. He does use end-rhyme, but It does not alternate for every line, sometimes there are two or three lines that have no rhyme between two lines that do. It is because of this unorthodox rhyme scheme that his poem relates to the seemingly random rhythms of Jazz music. Another poem that shows harmony similar to that of Jazz is The Tropics in New York by Claude McKay. In this he uses a simple end-rhyme scheme, and alternates with each line. But the way he has written the poem It seems to flow endlessly, not causing the mind to drift or to become confused. These are only two out of the thousands of poems that display the first characteristic of Jazz music. The next attribute of Jazz music is the subtle differences that musicians would put in that would make each player distinguishable from the next. One poet who demonstrated this quality greatly was Longs Hughes.Hughes was one of the most prolific and successful African-American poets of the 1 asss. In each one of his poems e would display his great pride for his heritage, as well as his displeasure with the oppression he witnessed. One of his poems that greatly illustrates this quality is Refugee in America. In this poem he speaks of sweet and wonderful words like Freedom, and how he thinks about it every day. He goes on to say that there are words like Liberty that nearly make him cry. This shows his great resentment of the oppression of his race.Another one of his poems that shows his strong pride for his heritage Is The Negro Speaks of Rivers. In this poem Hughes Illustrates how his race has been around for thousands of years and has known rivers all across the globe. By this he is stating that his race has been everywhere and will continue to last, just as the rivers of the world. But that is not the last trait that spans across both the music and literature of that era. The way that the musicians would flow almost randomly throughout the music, reacting to the audience, as well as their band mates, and not simply playing a single, designated set of notes. One of the first examples that comes to mind is William Carols Williams The Great Figure. This poem seems to make almost no sense, and have no reason for being written. It is the simple story of a fire truck going through the city on a rainy day. There were not too many styles of music, or literature, which produced poems as seemingly random, yet meaningful as the Jazz era. Another example of this is by the poet Hilled Doolittle, who is actually said to be the creator of the Images style of poetry. In Doolittle poem Heat she speaks of a wind that is miming through to cool down the heat.

Crime in african nations misc essays

Crime in african nations misc essays Organized crime is a problem that has spread all throughout the international community. In the past, national and regional crime organizations were small, isolated and worked independent of other crime organizations. However in the past few decades free trade and high speed telecommunications has made it easier for such groups to operate, therefore resulting in "global Mafiosi" that seem to be working together around the globe. This new development makes it hard for governments and the United Nations to combat international organized crime. Lesotho, a nation of the African block is particularly concerned with the escalating problem of illicit traffic of drugs and firearms linked with organized crime. Not only does drug trafficking pose a threat to the structure of Lesothos society, but also to its government. Profits made from these operations are used to destabilize governments, corrupt officials and influence government decisions. Lesotho is a member of the United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders. Furthermore it is an active member of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. The nation of Lesotho recognizes that cooperation is the key ingredient in combating organized crime. At present formal extradition agreements exist between Lesotho and South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland, Malawi, Taiwan, the USA and Israel. International cooperation is required to successfully prevent and control transnational crime. This is particularly the case with increasing numbers of offenders fleeing from one jurisdiction to another in order to avoid punishment and continue their activities. Countries must respect and abide by the terms of bilateral and multilateral treaties that they are party to. Organized crime which should be of most concern includes terrorism, illicit arms trade, drug trafficking and economic crime, such as international fraud....

Risk assessment in auditing of financial statements Research Paper

Risk assessment in auditing of financial statements - Research Paper Example SAS No. 109 was issued in 2006 along with seven other auditing standards. What’s important about these eight (8) auditing standards was their common theme – adherence to risk assessment and the audit response to such an assessment. These eight auditing standards were expected to bring about major changes and to give guidelines and guidance when auditing nonpublic entities (McConnell and Schweiger, 2007). The primary objective of these eight standards was to improve the conduct of audit by the external auditor through requiring the auditors to acquire a deeper understanding of a company’s internal controls so that the auditor is in a better position to â€Å"identify risks of material misstatement of financial statements† (McConnell and Schweiger, 2007). With this primary objective, the issuers hope that there will be better â€Å"linkages between assessed risks and the nature, timing and extent of audit procedures performed in response to those risks† (McConnell and Schweiger, 2007). The first paragraph of SAS No. 109 established the provisions and guidelines for obtaining â€Å"an understanding of the entity and its environment†¦to assess the risk of material misstatement of the financial statements† (AICPA, AU Section 314, 2006). The second paragraph provides brief summaries of the specific sections of the standard. The subsequent paragraphs expound on the summaries provided in the second paragraph. Paragraph 3 lists â€Å"examples of considerations for establishing a sufficient understanding† of the entity (AICPA, AU Section 314, 2006). Paragraph 4 calls on external auditors to â€Å"use professional judgment to determine the extent of the understanding required of the entity and its environment† (AICPA, AU Section 314, 2006). Certain paragraphs of SAS No. 109 outline and explain the risk assessment procedures (i.e, inquiries, analytical procedures and observation) an auditor needs to perform to obtain such an understanding. The
